Funded on Saturday, 23rd September 2017

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

I will be walking barefoot from Grenfell Tower in West London to the Excel Centre in East London, a distance of about 12 miles. The points of origin and destination were chosen for good reasons. Grenfell Tower is a recent example of how even in one of the 'wealthiest' countries in the world, the poor still die because of their poverty. Dozens of people died in the fire of Grenfell.

In contrast to Grenfell Tower, the Excel Centre is where an arms fair takes place to profit from war. In 2017, another arms fair will be held from 12th-15th September. A protest day of action will be taking place on the 9th September, which is when I will do the Grenfell-Excel walk.

I will be walking barefoot as a symbolic show of solidarity with the poorest people in the world, many of which are too poor to afford footwear. In addition, in different cultures, for example Judaism and some Christian denominations, it is customary to walk barefoot during mourning. In this sense then, my walking barefoot is a mourning and symbolises the poverty which connects the victims of Grenfell to victims of wars.

Everyone is welcome to join me for all or part of the walk - the company would be quite nice actually! Here is the facebook event page:

For 30 years, Afghanistan has been decimated by war and the resulting extreme poverty. For millions of Afghans, life is a constant struggle and there is no hope for a brighter future. There is a great need for practical initiatives that can show an alternative vision, and lead the way to that vision, in Afghanistan.

The Conservation Organisation for Afghan Mountain Areas is one of the nonprofit organisations in Afghanistan working to show an alternative vision. This vision includes education, new technology, sustainable energy, waste solutions for rural communities, women's empowerment and permaculture.

Forty years ago, Afghanistan was food self-sufficient. Now, most food is imported. War and globalization have done this to Afghanistan. Permaculture works for an alternative, self-sufficient future, free from corporate control of poor people. Your donation will help sustain this vital work, and will also assist in preparations for the establishment of a new international nonprofit organisation to address the root causes of poverty.
