I'm writing from remote Petra camp, Mount Olympus, N. Greece (Nov 2016). Every minute here is life changing. Struggling to survive in freezing conditions, around half of refugees are children. Our future generation missing out on their education, dealing with things that most adults will never have to.

Yet it’s hard to put into words the overwhelming sense of love and community here. It’s a privilege to live alongside these beautiful people who insist on inviting us into their tents to share meals cooked over make-shift wood stoves. No heating, no hot water, temperatures at night below freezing. I’ve met teachers, engineers, artists, University students - no different to us - the way they handle this indignity with smiles & generosity is truly inspirational.

A peaceful religious minority, the Yazidis were attacked by ISIS in Iraq in 2014. Many brutally murdered, women and girls taken as sex slaves subjected to unspeakable horrors. Those who survived were forced to flee their homes, risking their lives over mountains and over sea trying to find safety.

The children here are lively and playful, but it's hard to imagine what their bright eyes have seen. They have nothing, but what they want most is to learn.

Myself & Paul from Collective Calling are spending 3 months volunteering in Greece providing dignified aid, medical transport, relocation support & self-healing practices like trauma-sensitive yoga.

With no status to work or earn money, the adults have nothing to do but wait for the grueling relocation process. They need someone to hear their stories, to see photos of how they were before. To know that someone cares.

Teaching yoga, meditation, music and English lessons gives vital hope for the future.

UPDATE: Petra residents are now living in much improved conditions, but there are still thousands freezing in tents. With your support we will continue to support the most vulnerable refugees wherever and whenever we can.
