Gus & Naomi would like to thank everyone who has donated so generously to our fund. We never expected to receive this level of love and support and will never forget what incredible family, friends and neighbours we have around us. We still grieve for our beautiful old farmhouse but thanks to all of you we have been able to pick ourselves up and look forward to the future. All our love... Gussy and Naomi xx

*** UPDATE ***

To show what's happened, it maybe best to start with some articles that have hit the news about the fire that ripped through their home on Sunday morning.

http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/2018-08-05/cottage-badly-damaged-after-thatch-blaze/

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-45075511

Last year, Gus and Naomi experienced a burglary that surpassed what you'd call "normal". It was a burglary so unprecedented, Naomi was left gravely hurt in hospital. Time moved slowly and with a lot of courage and positivity, they finally found peace, although the repercussions will last forever.

They left that house to start a new life. They found this beautiful, thatched cottage in Wiltshire, which they've been renting since. Life seemed to get better for them; the burglary, a dark cloud, became a little less impactful on their day-to-day life.

This Sunday morning, Gussy went to take the sheep to market. He looked over the hills and could see smoke pouring out from the valley. His heart sank. Because of its location, it could only be Gill's Hole Farmhouse, their beloved home.

Their livelihood depended on the place. Naomi, who is a talented seamstress and fashion designer, had just moved her studio full of precious fabrics and equipment in. Gus has not just lost his laptop, the usual technology, but his photography kit, memories, all the knickknacks we all carry with us through life and take for granted - until the whole lot is burnt to bits.

It's hard to describe what these two have been through.

These are two special people. Two good, hard working, kindhearted humans. They don't deserve this. It could happen to any of us, it just hasn't - or not yet.

But I don't need to write any of this because most of you reading will already know everything I've highlighted. Or, if not, you may have bumped into them on the road, seen Gus driving around with a cheery smile at some point, or Naomi at the bar.

I hope that we can all come together as a community and do something. Maybe some "good" can come from this. Let's make this happen.

If falling into desperation worked to make things better, then I would say, 'Let's all jump into despair.' But it doesn't help. The only way to truly find meaning and fulfillment is to look at the disaster, the pain, the difficulty, and know with complete certainty that good can come from this.

Their clothes are burnt, their passports have gone, they have nothing literally. But with our support, they can buy:

-A bed

-Bedding

-Toiletries, toothpaste etc

-Get a laptop to keep up with work admin, bills, tax, access online

-A loom for Naomi's work

-Materials for her business

-They're homeless, a chance to rent a place

- A chance to not go bankrupt and keep business going

-A chance to have a go at life again

Just to let everyone know, we're hoping to close down, or cap this page. I'm struggling to find the button that allows me to do this! In the meantime, I wanted to also say thanks to everyone for being so staggeringly generous. It's made so much difference and as life improves for Naomi and Gus, I'm sure they'll hop onto this page (if JustGiving keeps it, not sure how this works) to let you all know how they're doing with your amazing support. Thanks again, Chloe

I'm Gus and Naomi's friend, Gus' sister in law. I’m setting this up because they deserve a leg up after this devastation. Who knows, perhaps crowdfunding can help more than we all imagine, like an old fashioned whip-round in the pub.
