    Story

For those who don't know, my name is Andy Allsopp and I'm a Paramedic Area Support Officer for West Midlands Ambulance Service based in Worcester covering all of Worcestershire operationally. My Wife and I have lived in the village just over 4 years.

I am writing on here to show the importance of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). I'm sure you've all heard of them as many communities and work places have acquired them and have trained personnel in the use of the device. Currently Hampton Magna doesn't have one. Which in a case where someone from the village was found in cardiac arrest, there would be a wait for an Ambulance until defibrillation could be performed.

There is around a 5% chance of survival in an out of hospital cardiac arrest with just CPR (chest compressions) alone. However, an out of hospital cardiac arrest with CPR and an AED makes it around a 50% chance that the heart can be re-started!

we have managed to secure the Defibrillator and external box, however, now require the funds to secure its future in the village indefinitely. The cabinet will be placed on an external wall at the community centre with a code which can be gained by calling 999.

It will cost approximately £80 a year maintenance and the battery will require replacing every couple of years at around £100.

My fundraising idea is to take an aerial photograph of Hampton Magna in celebration of 50 years and sell them for £5 each. I will also be available to take personal aerial photos of your property, available for £25 each

Once installed, I will host a few AED awareness sessions at the community centre for free.

Orders will be able to be made shortly, or alternatively please give what little that you can to the 'Just Giving' page to help raise the funds and get the AED available for everyone in the community. Thank you.
