Hello everyone, we have decided to run the Liverpool half marathon to raise money for the patients living with Cystic Fibrosis on our ward at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic condition you are born with. 1 in 25 people carry the faulty gene that causes it. People with CF experience a build up of thick mucus in the lungs, digestive system and other organs causing a wide range of challenging symptoms affecting the entire body.

As two nurses who care for patients with CF everyday it is difficult to see young people of a similar age to ourselves struggle with this chronic disease. It is also incredibly inspiring to witness what can only be described as a constant battle.

Many patients have frequent admissions throughout the year and end up spending a lot of time in hospital, and the ward does become a second home from home for them. We do our best everyday to try and make our patients stay as enjoyable as possible by cheering them up singing, dancing and joking. Despite this, they are still in hospital through no choice of their own.

In the words of one of our patients "please donate even the smallest fee to help get the ward looking like a more friendly place and get the family feel back, to match the lovely attitudes of all the staff who are so good with the patients".
