Through the Fiji Islands Discovered volunteering programme with VESA, from the 8th-25th July 2017, I will be part of a small group of volunteer students and young people. Once I arrive in Nadi, I will be living in a 'homestay' in a traditional Fijian village - this means I will be living with a local family along with one or two other volunteers. After being welcomed by locals I will be working with the villagers to construct rain water catchment tanks so that the villagers have access to fresh, clean and running water. I will also be volunteering in the local schools teaching English through basic lessons, games and rhymes and I will also be restoring and revitalising the school equipment and buildings. Furthermore, I will be helping to run workshops in local schools to demonstrate proper hygiene techniques and I will be installing new play equipment and constructing bathrooms, composting units and more water catchment tanks. For the final few days of my trip I will be off on an incredible tropical island hopping adventure with some of the local young children I meet during my stay. I will be travelling to Denarau, Nacula Island, Korovou Island and Bounty Island in the Mamanuca Island group.

The price of this program includes my accommodation with a local family, all of my traditional Fijian meals which are cooked by locals and some snacks, all volunteer materials for construction projects, the salary of local skilled trades people that assist in the volunteer projects, clean bottled drinking water when I require it, all in country transportation, all activities that I do with locals in my free time at night and a donation to the local host organisation. The cost of this trip will also cover sponsorship of three young children in need in Fiji, which I will have the privilege of meeting. However, the price does not include my flights, travel and health insurance or vaccinations.
