We are currently fostering Pepper, a 6 month old cocker spaniel and we want to raise money for the veterinary fees for him to be able to see properly and stop him going blind. (Pepper was previously known as Bailey, which is still his official name until we adopt him). We have been fostering Pepper for five weeks. Prior to this he was underweight, constantly crated and then advertised free to a good home. This is where Spaniel Assist Rescue and Rehoming (SARR) stepped in and saved him. I collected Pepper and we realised almost immediately he had a problem with his eyes, which was initially diagnosed as conjunctivitis. Call it a ‘mothers intuition’, but I knew there was something else wrong. On taking him back to the vets they confirmed that he had cataracts in both eyes, problems with his third eyelid and a flickering in his eyes, which needed further investigation. Pepper has now seen an eye specialist who has confirmed that the problems he has are congenital and he is likely to go blind. An operation will greatly improve his eyesight, with a 90% success rate, but this will cost around £3000. This is a huge amount of money for SARR to raise, and they have lots of other dogs which also need medical treatment, who rely on donations. I will also be holding local fundraising events to help. Pepper is such a little sweetheart and so loving towards everyone. He does shadow one of my older dogs, but he also spends a lot of his time bumping into things and on walks I have to be careful about where he goes and help him with pavements. Please help us to raise the money for him to have his operation and be able to lead a normal life. Even the smallest amount will be gratefully received.
