Story
The Medical Center of Taolagnaro, aka 'The Robin Hood Clinic' was built, entirely from scratch by the inspirational Dr Jane Olivier in 2005. It was inspired by a South African concept of 'Robin Hood', (nope it's not a clinic full of Doctors in tights, bit hot over there for that) meaning the profits it makes from its paying patients are used to subsidize free programmes; promoting access to care for the most deprived populations and providing invaluable and life-saving treatment to the community.
Dr Olivier and her clinic have truly been a blessing to the area, providing free programs that include:
- Free ante-natal care with their midwife
- Free post-natal/ baby wellness follow-up and education'
- Free burns- dressing for the many children burned in low-burning cooking fires'
-Hoping to add free HIV councilling and testing in the next 18 months.
So guess where I'm heading off to in April - Madagascar! I'm hoping to take a nice chunky donation over to the clinic to help contribute towards their medical equipment and programmes. This will include:
-Dressings such gauze, bandages, sutures etc for the free burns programme and other dressings.
- Money for equipment - CTG machine to monitor unborn/in-utero infants, Defibrillator Machines, AED Machines
Anything you can contribute would be absolutely incredible guys so dig as deep as you can ay :)
