As you may or may not know, my mum was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. You never truly know how much a disease like cancer affects a family until you experience it yourself. For her treatment, like many others, my mum will undergo chemotherapy. Whilst we are lucky that treatments exist, one of the unfortunate side effects of chemotherapy is hair loss. Being the person I am, I couldn't just sit back and not help. Being about 100 miles away at Uni, this initially proved a challenge. Then I had the idea of a head shave. Not only is this a great way to raise money, but hopefully it will make my mum feel less alone and show her that you don't need hair to look good.

My mum and I decided to raise money for Peterborough Hospital Breast Unit, as they will be supporting her throughout her treatment. Scarily, statistics show that 1 in 2 people in the UK born after 1960 will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime and that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women. We can't let this continue, and the only way we will beat cancer is together.

Please donate whatever you can to my cause. A little is better than nothing. My head shave will be taking place at 2pm on 21/11/18 in JJs common room in Halifax College, it would be great to see as many faces as possible down there to support me.
