    Story

In June 2012 we were celebrating father's day at my parents house when my heart stopped....NO warning, NO symptoms, and NO previous medical conditions it just STOPPED. I had suffered an idiopathic sudden cardiac arrest, and the ONLY reason I am still alive to write this is due to a whole lot of luck, our outstanding NHS and my father's incredible CPR skills. I then spent two and a half months in hospital recovering but in total a year and a half of my life was spent fighting to return to some sort of normality. Part of the reason my recovery was so long wasn't due to the arrest itself but the time it took for the paramedics to arrive with an AED, six years ago they weren't a common device accessible to the public so I had no choice but to wait for this piece of vital equipment to save my life. For every minute that passed the chances of my survival decreased dramatically without the use of that AED, so much so that less than 5% of people survive an out of hospital cardiac arrest! This needs to change and defibrillators need to be accessible to all especially rural communties, so we purchased our school a defibrillator at the end of the last school year to keep all our amazing children, parents, staff and visitors safe. We now need to pay back the school and hopefully fund an external unit to house the defibrillator so the surrounding community can take advantage too if the need sadly ever arises. So on the 6th may 2018 myself and my husband are taking on a tough mudder , we have 5 miles to run and 13 obstercials to tackle which involves alot of mud so please please sponsor us and keep our school safe x Victoria and Luke Alford ( parents to Isaac Alford year one and Theodore Alford age 3 )
