I am Heather & my boyfriend is Gerard and this is our IVF story...
Ever since I can remember, I've always wanted children. When I was 19 I was diagnosed with Endometriosis(link below) and Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome(PCOS) after being in so much pain for so long I finally had answers and was relieved but then I realised these horrible conditions may affect my ability to carry a child and I was heartbroken.
When me and Gerard decided to grow our family, we knew it would be a difficult road and were referred by my doctor to the Hewitt fertility centre here in Liverpool. Whilst doing our research we were advised that no treatment would be covered by the NHS as Gerard already has a son (our babby Gerard) and the treatment in the UK is very expensive.
We did further research in to different clinics and found a clinic in Poland who do the full IVF cycle with medications etc. and so we started to save. I even thought about setting one of these pages up back then but thought we'd try and save ourselves first. We sold everything we owned but didn't need (clothes, shoes, jewellery etc.) and scrimped, saved and borrowed for a year until we had just enough to cover treatment - we were so excited.
We attended the clinic in Gdansk 4 times and went through with our treatment and flew home - only to have our hearts broken when we waited our 2 weeks & tested negative. We even did more tests just to be sure (7 more in fact) - we didn't want to believe it ourselves.
We have sat down and discussed this together and although it would take a long time to save up to have more treatment again we just don't want to give up on our dream so we are determined to go back for a 2nd round.
