Weʼve raised £90 to Set up a community sensory room in Heckmondwike
- Heckmondwike, United Kingdom
- Funded on Saturday, 18th March 2017
Don't have time to donate right now?
Story
Children of today are growing up in an ever increasing stressful, fast paced world. More and more children are living with Autism, ADHD, anxiety, low self esteem, learning and mobility difficulties.
Having a sensory room locally that is easy accessible to EVERYONE is vital in today's world, Even us adults need "time out" once in a while.
How many times have we been shopping in town with our little ones and they have a temper tantrum meltdown? Wouldn't it be great to have a place where we can escape to for an hour or so to let our child calm down and both enjoy relaxing moments.
I have set up a management committee to help develop the sensory community room and we are in need of funding to purchase equipment and finance the first 3 month rent.
We have looked into other ways of funding such as grants but most don't open up till April and we really want to be set up and running by March.
For all who donate £6 or above will receive a free hour session once the sensory room is open to the public.

7 years agoA big thank you to you all for supporting this project. Sadly I've not managed to get the amount that I was hoping for, although I am still waiting to hear about a grant application I made in January. In the meantime I have had meetings with a guy to help me find ways of making the sensory room possible and he has suggested doing a "prototype" so with the money raised so far (including a small grant from warburtons) I will purchase equipment and a gazebo and have a "portable sensory space" with the hope of pitching it in Heckmondwike market etc
