Story
Ian is a 37 yr old Buddhist Carpenter that we are trying raise money for to help him retrain after a life changing Injury.
In March 2014 while working in the French Alps he sustained a horrific injury while free skiing where he nearly lost his left leg and destroyed his right ankle. He spent 6 months in hospital in France where they saved his leg but he was still left in a limb threatening situation. He returned to the UK with only the clothes on his back and no home as his carpentry skills allowed him to travel a lot and work the seasons while in between giving his time to volunteering for charities.
Since returning Ian has undergone several very complicated Limb reconstructive procedures and down to the skill and care of the staff in several NHS hospitals in London and his mental attitude he has gained a semblance of mobility back although he is still left with stage 4 osteoarthritis of the left knee which will be addressed with a knee replacement next year. Due to Ian's fortitude, positive outlook and generosity and care of his friends, after 3+ yrs of wheelchairs, hospitals, surgery and all that goes with such a traumatic time he has managed to survive in London and found a place to live and is now looking to the next stage of his life.
After such a life changing Injury Ian will not be able to return to the workplace as a carpenter but has recently won a place at the prestigious City & Guilds Art School in Kennington London doing a 3yr Diploma in 'Historic Ornamental Wood Carving & Gilding'. This will enable him to be primarily workshop based and expand on the skill set and experience he already has and carve a future for himself and get back on his feet. Unfortunately the course has to be self funded and any college bursaries will not be available until half way through the academic year. The money we are trying to raise will cover the cost of the first terms and new tools and equipment he will need and also help towards travel and maintenance costs.
