    Story

We are urgently raising funds on behalf of our friend, Luce, who is a queer, non binary working class trauma survivor of childhood family seuxal abuse, neglect and violence. They have been diagnosed with mental health conditions such as Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Dissociation and Depersonalization disorder. Luce has lived with some of these memories since they were four years old, which is now over 20 years of sereve, unprocessed trauma they currently deal with.

They have been sectioned under psychiatric care twice previously and had multiple attempts on their life. They regular experiences flashbacks and doctors have advised that this therapy can urgently help them cope with the distressing effect of their trauma. In 2017 they testified in court against their rapist and received a not guilty verdict. As their friends, we want the best for their future and this therapy can offer justice and closure, which has never been an option for Luce.

The distressing events previously mentioned become less intense and less immediate after this therapy, and more like ordinary memories. We also believe having EMDR before other talking therapies such as mentalization or DBT is necessary to prepare for the emotional work done in those sessions. Luce is currently on a waiting list though the NHS, but needs this urgent intervention.

The current waiting list and ability to access EDMR on the NHS is dire. There are reports of waiting lists being up to three or four years. Luce is from a low income, working class family and cannot afford financially private therapy.

An EMDR specialist in their local area has quoted 70 to 100 pounds per session. We would like to raise £600 to cover the costs (EDIT: thank you for all those who helped us reach 600! we have raised the goal to 1000 as 6 sessions would help but in all likelihood not be nearly enough). The more we raise means the more ability to have sessions around their various traumas. It will also act as a taxi fund for before and after the session, as this therapy can be disorientating.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this fundraiser and please donate if you can!
