Last week a friend of mine asked me if I could do anything to save a girl. When she told me the story of Brenda, my heart sank, all I could think was how enormously precious my own daughter is to us and how can someone sell their daughter and make her go through female mutilation. Of course it is a different culture (Brenda lives in a remote place in Kenya) but I still struggle with the whole thing. Anyway, straight away I said "Yes, I will do it" no matter what. We can't save every person in the world, but I can make a difference to this girl's life. That is a start.
So, here I am, asking for your help to raise £270 to pay for one year of Brenda's education and safety.
I have already started fundraising. I am hoping to raise the £270 by the end of December so any help will be greatly appreciated.
Brenda is a 15 year old girl from Kenya. She is part of a big family (5 wives and 40 children). Next month she is due to be sold in order for her family to get the money to educate some of the boys. She will be cut (FGM) during "cutting season" -Nov/Dec and then sold.
Brenda was able to attend Ortum Girls school where she did really well and showed she is quick at learning.
Due to lack of funds she had to return home. Her mother tried to get the funding together to keep her in the school and save her from being sold but couldn't manage to do so.
