My Name is Mo Sullivan. I have been volunteering in a children's charity center in India since October.
I have been privileged to have met many Indians and their families, they have all been so welcoming. Despite living in some of the poorest of conditions imaginable they have shown me so much kindness and insist on sharing whatever little they have.
Aslam has been my daily Tuk Tuk driver, and like so many others has been impacted by the current demonetization situation here in India. The tourists who make up a large percentage of their business have been unable to get any cash and Tuk Tuk drivers can only take cash. Aslam currently rents a Tuk Tuk and often only earns enough to pay the daily rental on his Tuk Tuk, £2.75 per day
Aslam not only supports himself, he supports his mother too. He lives with her in just one room. His mother has a large growth on her neck that leaves her unable to speak beyond a whisper. Aslam cannot afford to pay for surgery to remove it and her medicines cost a great deal a week (£1.50 per day)
Aslam's father died when he was very young, his mum could not afford to send him or his siblings to school so he began working when he was 10 years old to support the family.
Aslam's Tuk Tuk owner has told Aslam that he wants to sell his Tuk Tuk, this leaves him without a job, and with no job, no money.
I would love with your help, to enable Aslam to finance buying his own Tuk Tuk.
This would be an act of kindness and a way to empower Aslam to earn the money to help his family to live.
A deposit for a new Tuk Tuk is £645, Aslam would then have the security of his own business and would be able to rent the Tuk Tuk to another driver for the night shift, not only helping to increase Aslam's potential income but to help another impoverished person.
Please help me to change Aslam's life, one thing i have learned here in India, is that whilst they live in poverty they are rich in love and generosity.
