Story
Following emergency spinal cord surgery and having to live with the effects of Cauda Equina Syndrome, which is essentially nerve compression and damage, causing partial paralysis and pain to the waist downwards. Some days are better than others but on bad days it can be so painful that I can only lay still and wait for the pain to go. Soon I will be transferred to Sheffield Spinal Rehabilitation Unit, where I will learn how to cope and manage with this condition. All I hope for is to get home to my babies and be the best Mum I can be for them all. Help is really needed for things like travel to and from the hospital for my babies to see me. Making my home comfortable and safe for my return to normal family life. Making a temporary bedroom downstairs so on days I can't manage the stairs, I can sleep downstairs safely.
As a very proud and fiercly independent single Mum, it is very difficult for me to ask for your help, as many of you may already know! I was so independent before this happened to me and even as positive and determined a person as I am, the effects of this may mean that I am not able to fight this and I may be stuck with this, for life. I won't give up on being strong though! I aim to help others having difficulties in their lives, once I am feeling a bit tougher both physically and mentally!! Any help you can give would be totally amazing. xxx Love Cate xxx

7 years agoLatest news is that a wonderful local charity have offered to help financially, towards some of the modifications in my home, that don't fall under any grants at the moment. (This doesn't include my bathroom, as this will be a discussion with my local council). I really want to go home now and be able to be as independent as possible. If I can at least fix my kitchen, so that I can use my walking frame and perching stool, I'd feel like a better Mum. My kids need their Mum home!! So please can we have one final push? Please everyone share xxxx

7 years agoHi my amazing supporters 💖....Today I mastered the art of WALKING..with crutches! Everything aches tonight, but I don't care, it is worth the pain to be able to say that I can WALK, even if it's just a few steps!! Enjoy this little video...P.S. I wish I was the Sugar Plum Fairy ☺️🎀🦄👸🏻💖

7 years agoWOW...thank you 🙏🏼 I am now at 83% of my target!!!!! This is AMAZING!!!!!! So I am almost walking....on the parallel bars and with crutches, (Physio following me with the wheelchair)....I will need to buy a wheelchair, once I'm home. I will also need to have a new front door, which will be low enough for me to get over with crutches/walking frame. I will be sleeping downstairs, until my legs, hips and spine are strong enough to manage the stairs, so I will have to buy a bed too....your amazing donations are helping towards this ❤️❤️❤️

Sadly after an accident and emergency spinal surgery, I have lost the ability to walk without support, some days it is even too painful to try. The most sad part of this is missing my 4 babies. I still have a very long way to go before I can go home for good! xxx
