Story
Hi All,
My name is Ashleigh and I am a second year student paedatric nurse.
In August 2018, I am off to Tanzania, Africa to work within some of the poorest healthcare settings in the world. The children that I will be helping will be children who are extremely sick and vulnerable.
The third world countries have an extremely high death mortality rate, where statistics show that 1 in 9 children born in Africa will die before their 5th birthday.
During my time there, I will hopefully be working on the neo-natal unit and the children's ward (TBC) and I will be also spending a week living with the tribe's in the western mountains and taking part in immunisation clinics as well as other healthcare tasks. Adults and children walk for days to attend the clinics that are run in the rural areas, they get to the back of the queue only to be told after hours of waiting, that there is not enough vaccines to dispense to everyone and they will have to return on another clinic day. This consequently leads to premature death through viruses/diseases that can be cured, THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Why should children not have the right to life, just because they are born in the poorest parts of the world, it is not their choice. During my stay I will be exposed to advanced stages of illness and disease and more then likely will deal with death during my stay, this will test all involved.
The trip in total is 3000+ and I will be doing fundraising events and activities from now till the end of May to help raise the money needed.
EVENTS: 02/04/18 - SKYDIVE
In the developed countries, such as the UK, the child death mortality rate is understandably lower due to advances in the economic and medical world, so why should children in 3rd world countries be disregarded and not helped?
If you can find it in your hearts to donate or sponsor me (every little helps) on my quest to volunteer in Africa, it will be eternally grateful. These children need our help, don't you think?
Anything, no matter how small, will help me help the children!
