Weʼve raised £30 to Run a Summer programme for children in the borough of Brent and Westminster (10-15 yrs) to participate in Notting Hill Carnival 2018

Funded on Wednesday, 15th August 2018

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

This project will create kweyol cultural heritage awareness, embracing the rich diverse UK/ Caribbean culture. The children will have an opportunity to participate in the Notting Hill upon receipt of signed parental consent.

We will be hosting an Arts Summer Programme in Queens Park Gardens Community Hub, targeting young children (10 – 15 years old) of all nationalities. Queens Park Gardens Community Hub, currently runs an after-school programme and has welcomed Fete Domnik UK’s interest as an addedl learning activity to offer through their summer camp.

    The activities will include

    • Papier Mache

    • Tshirt decorating

    • Costume design and making

    • Costume embellishment

We want to teach the children the art of making traditional ‘Sensay’ costumes and deliver an insight into Dominica’s cultural heritage. We will host a

    • DJ Introductory Masterclass as part of the Summer Programme, where the children will listen to a catalogue of historical, traditional Kweyol music.

    • Basic Introductory to Kweyol language

    • History of the Sensay costume

The Sensay costume although traditional to Dominica will be adapted to embrace the individual nationalities of each child as their T-shirts will be designed to reflect their individual nationalities e.g. Indian, English, Irish etc.
