Story
To offer support to the lonely and vulnerable community during the festive period by way of food and entertainment.
I am wanting to provide a Traditional Christmas Dinner for the vulnerable and or lonely members of our amazing community in Herne Bay!
Many of us take for granted the love and family that we are surrounded by during the festive season. This period can make the isolation even harder to bare. With this in mind Id like to run this small project as a way of widening our community and becoming more inclusive for all..
I have managed to secure a local cafe who have agreed to provide the space and kitchen which of course is up to hygiene regulations on Christmas Eve so that we can make this possible.
Details are as follows
Traditional 3 course Christmas lunch with all the trimmings and condiments
Drinks, Christmas crackers / decorations , Bingo with prizes , Entertainment (Local singer performing songs in keeping with the clientele) , Full waitress service Unfortunately NO ALCOHOL due to no licence on premises.
We are able to do this for 20 people. There is no huge stipulation on guests, although I would prefer people to suggest (put forward with consent) people and that the guests be isolated somewhat or vulnerable rather than those that regularly are in contact with a community of some sort. Of course we would not rule out those in nursing homes, but perhaps there is that lonely neighbour out there? A recent Widow(er)? Somebody with lack of family? Somebody recovering from illness who could just do with a little community around them to raise the spirits? Also, it doesn't have to be a person on their own. It could be an elderly couple with no family around them etc? I am happy to meet with them to reassure and hopefully excite them about the event once you good people have raised the idea with them!
Where do you come in...?
I'm looking for monetary donations to contribute to costings. This is strictly a NOT FOR PROFIT event, but simply as an act of community. Any monies left over will be donated to a local charity (I'll ask a simple poll via herne bay chatter)
We have a Chef, Waiters, Waitresses, Barista, Washer upper and Entertainer sorted (but thank you for the kind offerings)
**A very kind local business has offered to donate the Turkeys & Pigs in Blankets. With the wonderful Makari's donating their amazing Ice cream with mince pies and Christmas pudding**
Once I have the guest list sorted I shall be reaching out to you, the community once again for donation of gifts. I will only require 20 gifts (of which I shall pick you a guest at random, giving you age and m/f) and also a few bingo prizes.
Even if you are not able to donate, thank you so much for caring enough to read about this little event! <3
