Over the past four years, the volunteer-led organisation Hidayah has had an enormous impact on the lives of LGBTQIA+ Muslims living in the UK. From hosting social events, presenting educational workshops and providing mentoring programmes all across the country, the charity has not only expanded its size and service users over this period, but has grown to become the UK’s foremost queer Muslim charity: a journey that was first made possible through the power of crowdfunding.

Hidayah is now excited to expand the same support to LGBTQIA+ Muslims in the US. Our goal is to raise £3000 through this crowdfunding campaign to help establish Hidayah as a registered charity in the US and to kickstart all of the exciting projects and events that Hidayah US hope to facilitate across America. Successful initial events delivered by Hidayah US, including virtual Healing Circles and Halaqahs [reading and discussion groups], have demonstrated an urgent need for Hidayah’s efforts in the US and a diverse population that would benefit from Hidayah’s work in advocating for LGBTQIA+ Muslims and fighting against the discrimination, prejudice and injustice that they face.

Being queer and Muslim unites two minority groups within an intersectional identity that leaves countless individuals feeling isolated and divorced from both social and religious spheres. Now more than ever, a sense of community is what queer Muslims deserve and need.
