On Saturday 18th August 2018, a group of friends and I will be hiking a distance of approximately 25km including approximately 5000ft of ascent. The route is as follows:

My aim is to raise as much money as possible for my cousin who is of similar age and is now in palliative care. This is a brief insight into the life of my cousin Josh within the past four years.

Josh was diagnosed with an Ependymoma ( a rare type of brain tumour) in April 2014. Since then he has undergone two craniotomys (brain surgery), 6 weeks of stereotactic radiotherapy and two gamma knife surgeries. As of today, Josh‘s orginal brain tumour has metastasized (spread) to other areas of his brain. He now has three brain tumours. There is no cure for Ependymoma. They do not know the cause for this type of tumour and chemotherapy has little or no beneficial effect. Therefore Josh has decided to decline this treatment.

More research is desparately needed into Ependymoma. At present, Josh is now in palliative care , his mum has had to give up work to take care of his daily needs and to support him together with his family and friends.
