The cause

Kerala in India was recently hit by the worst floods in a Century! The devastating floods killed nearly 500 people, about 1.8 million people were displaced and entire towns, farmland, major public works and the international airport were submerged.

The state finance minister, Thomas Isaac, estimated that the floods to have caused USD3billion of damage and significant effort and aid is still required to repair the damage and destruction caused by the floods.

The effort

To help assist this effort, we are undertaking a 50KM hike across Hong Kong’s terrain. The overall terrain combines 8 different hikes and is estimated to take 15 hours of continuous hiking. We will undertake the hike on 8 December, starting at sunrise and finishing (hopefully) well past sunset, trekking through pitch darkness with some trusty headlights.

The charity

KCAP is private charity that raises money to build and repair homes in India. Oliver Lloyd, a Senior-School Housemaster at Harrow International School started the charity 17 years ago and has been returning frequently to build houses. The houses will be built in the backwaters of Lake Vembanad in Kerala. Vembanad is the longest lake in India and the largest in the state of Kerala. The fundamental aim of the charity is to ensure secure and well-constructed houses for families in Kerala.
