We have been raising £20,000 to provide St Helier Hospital’s maternity unit with a new bereavement room. So far we have raised £16,513! We are so close to our goal and hope to have the money for the room by our daughter’s 2nd anniversary. Your love, support and generosity has been absolutely amazing and we would like to thank everyone who has supported us so far.

Our Story

From our 12 week appointment our baby was not measuring up to what she should've been. We had a variety of scans and tests, and at 21 weeks gestation, our daughter was diagnosed with a rare genetic chromosome disorder called Triploidy, meaning she was not compatible with life outside the womb.

Our tiny, gorgeous daughter Hope was born sleeping on Saturday 6th August 2016 at St Helier Hospital. She was beautiful and perfect. An overwhelming love, fear, and sadness filled me that day. We had our own room on the labour ward, allowing us to spend precious time that we would never get again to create memories. A cold cot enabled Hope stay with us continuously over night, and in this time we cuddled her, told her stories, played music to her and I got lay with her by our side. 

During my time at St Helier we discussed with my bereavement midwife, that we wanted to help make positive changes to the maternity bereavement room and help other families who suffer the loss of a baby. We discussed everything we thought needed to change and now we are working to make this happen.

This is the first and last place we got to see our daughter and create the memories we have today. This room is a special place to say Hello and Goodbye in one visit. This room is where we crammed a life time of cherished moments into a few hours. This room holds our most precious memories that will be with us for the rest of our lives. This is why it is important to us to provide a new room, to allow other families who will use this room to have the best facilities as possibly and have a soft and comfortable environment.

WHY WE ARE RAISING MONEY…

Each hospital should Ideally have at least one dedicated bereavement room/suite and vital equipment needed.

The room is currently on the labour ward and will remain in the same place. This is to ensure that the mother receives continuous care and support during labour and after birth. The new room will be redecorated & equipped with a low lighting, bed, a bed chair, recliner, en-suite bathroom and small kitchenette area. This is to enable parents to spend time in the room with their baby/babies and any visitors, if they would like to do so. A cot or suitable sized basket will also be available for the baby. A cooling facility will be fitted in the bereavement room, so that parents have easy access to their baby and do not need to go to the mortuary if they would like to see and spend time with their baby.
