Horsmonden Primary School are currently raising money to redesign and renovate the outdoor early years area for the children in reception class.
Our current outdoor area comprises of a small courtyard and an area which you can see from the picture, is unused and not very safe for the children to access.
Our vision is to completely redesign the area, providing children with a safe and stimulating outdoor space. This will allow the children to stretch their physical capabilities and explore the natural world around them.
We are looking to create a new double door access point to this area from the classroom, ensuring that the children can be seen at all times and can access this area safely in all weathers.
The area and floor will need to be prepared with new surfacing and we will also be extending this area on to the adjoining field.
We are also looking to resource the outdoor area with exciting educational resources, which enhance and inspire the children to plan and develop their own strengths and interests.
The children are at the forefront of all that we do, and so we asked them what their hopes and wishes were for the new space. Their responses included planting vegetables, looking at animal habitats, housing some chickens, a mud kitchen, den building, new play equipment, a place to ride bikes and play ball games and somewhere to explore.
