This year is turning out to be a record breaking hurricane season, and as many of you will know on the 18th September 2017, along with other Caribbean islands Dominica was hit by hurricane Maria.

Overnight the beautiful island of Dominica known as 'Eden the nature island, was left with truly catastrophic devastation. Hurricane Maria has claimed to date 27 fatalities, dozens of people are still missing, vegetation decimated, and it really is no exaggeration that 90% of the structures on the island have either been damaged or destroyed.

It is said, not a single street island-wide was spared the fury of Hurricane Maria's 175mph winds. Dominica is still without vital running water (only approx 5% now have water) no electricity and there is a severe food shortage.

We are doing all we can to raise as much awareness as possible for all the brave strong resilient people of Dominica living in the aftermath of hurricane Maria and we will continue to donate and direct people to Dominica's official charity page to raise awareness for all of Dominica...

However, this fund raising journey is a personal one for my family in Dominica - Minetta & Stephan Joseph. My aim is to help raise funds towards vital repairs to their family home, which is currently inhabitable.

Also as many of you will know, Davis and I was with Minetta & Stephan (Davis's parents) when hurricane Maria hit, and I know speak for us all when I say this was the most terrifying & traumatic experience we have all ever experienced.

I am truly humbled by Minetta & Stephan's ongoing resilience during such a hard, life changing experience. Although when we emerged from the aftermath to see the heartbreaking destruction the hurricane had done to their beautiful house, the first words Minetta said was "thank-you Lord, for sparing us" and each day after and every time we speak to Minetta although she speaks of how hard surviving theses weeks post Maria is, she never fails to give thanks for the Lords mercy.. I just cannot imagine how hard it must be all these weeks on surviving without life's vital basic's and without all the things we take for granted each day.

Since Hurricane Maria hit Minetta & Stephan have been staying with a wonderful neighbour in her basement. Vera also lost her roof, but opened her door to us all and other families - We will never forget Vera's ongoing kindness.

Although Davis and his brothers are doing an amazing job putting their savings together, sourcing materials for the roof to be shipped from a neighbouring island, organising man power for the roof repair, sending barrels etc.. I would like to do all I can to help towards all that is needed to get the roof repaired.

Myself & my besties will be organising several fundraising activities and events in order to help Minetta & Stephan get back into their home and recover from this terrible ordeal.
