    Story

Professor Ian Taylor passed away in February 2021 at the age of 52. He was an esteemed scholar as well as a friend and mentor to many. Anyone who visited his office at the University of St Andrews could not fail to be impressed by his library of books. These were collected by Ian from across the world during his travels, and represent a unique collection. We aim to fulfil a promise to transfer his library to Africa; specifically to the Institute of Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University, where he was a visiting professor. Ian would want his books to be used by the next generation of scholars of Africa, in Africa. We need to now fundraise to cover the costs of this transfer and to ensure that there are funds to pay for the proper curation of the books, so that they can be used by scholars for years to come. Your contribution is very much appreciated.

Thank you all once again! Our fundraising journey on JustGiving has finished. Ian's books are in Ethiopia and awaiting the next step of their journey... the setting up of the 'Ian Taylor Collection' at the Institute of Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University. We hope that it will be a great resource for the Institute and know that Ian would be so happy to see his much loved books put to good use. What a legacy! Jo, Eric and Tim

Ian's books are on their way to Ethiopia! In July we loaded Ian's books onto a truck which took them off to Grangemouth. From there they were loaded onto a boat and started the first leg of their journey to Ethiopia, sailing up the Firth of Forth and passing by Ian's grave in St Monans on their way.... They are currently in Jeddah so will be at their final destination soon. We are really grateful to all who have contributed in any way to this wonderful project. THANK YOU x

On the 22nd July, Ian's books began their journey to Ethiopia. With the help of volunteers we loaded them into a truck to be taken off for shipping. It was a great relief to see them on their way and we are all pleased that we are continuing to honour this commitment. Once again, we wish to thank all who have supported us on this JustGiving page or offline. Another recent contribution came from donations made at the University of St Andrews memorial service for Ian in May: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRVqtSokcbw&t=2092s Thanks again!

Missing Ian's insights and observations about society and the world economy.
