Hi everyone.

This summer i'm fortune enough to be given the opportunity to join a group of volunteers in a school in Zambia.

The charity running the school is Itala foundation, which was set up by two teachers from north wales. Last year the charity was able to provide 954 children with a full time education. The Itala foundation could not sustain this number of pupils without the much needed support of volunteers groups like the one i'll be joining.

I was encouraged to set up this just giving page by friends and family asking how they can support me in this venture. If you would like to sponsor me to spend three weeks volunteering in Africa i would be very very grateful for your support. The school I will be visiting is located near the small village of Mkushi. The majority of children attending the school come from backgrounds where they either only have one parent or are orphaned. This school gives the opportunity for the children to get both an education and care that they otherwise wouldn't receive. The school is completely free for many local children "who through a variety of circumstances were unable to go to the nearby state school".

While i'm in the school i will be able to support these children with their learning by teaching lessons and sports. Not only will i be teaching, i'll be helping with the maintenance of the school by painting, building and caring for the grounds as well as helping in the school kitchen. I will be able to give my time and attention to the children that may not have a family to do that for them having a great impact on these children's lives.
I feel very privileged to have the access to the level of education that i do in the UK and feel extremely lucky and excited that I've been given this opportunity to help a school in need.
