Well what a silly year 2017 has turned out to be....
At the start of this year my wife was given the news that the Ulcerative Colitis she had been suffering with for the past 10 years had severely left her Colon in a non-repairable state and no other medication would help with the disease. The decision was made that she would have surgery to remove her Colon with the intention of having a Stoma and "poo" bag for the rest of her life. After surgery and while still recovering Barker (that’s the wife’s nickname by the way) contacted the charity Purple Wings for advice on moving forward and to regain confidence in everyday life. The support she has been given is utterly amazing and help folk with IBD and Ostomies from all walks of life and all different ages. They rely solely on charity donations to keep giving people the support they deserve.
So, as I’m a complete idiot and enjoy punishing myself I will be competing in Ironman Wales on Sunday 10th September 2017. This gruelling triathlon consists of a 2.4 mile sea swim, 112 mile cycle and then running a marathon (26.2 miles) all within 17 hours in and around Tenby, Pembrokeshire.
Any donations big or small would be fantastic and will go to help Purple wings carry on doing all their amazing work for people with IBD and ostomies.
