Weʼve raised £60 to Irvine Rugby Club Junior & Senior Sections and the My Name'5 Doddie charity
- Irvine, Ayrshire
- Funded on Friday, 5th July 2019
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
We are raising funds for the My Name'5 Doddie campaign and our Junior & Senior club sections.
Doddie Weir won 61 caps for Scotland and was well known for his pranks alongside his close friend Gary Armstrong. Doddie played for Melrose, Newcastle, winning the Premiership in 1998 and the Border Reivers. He retired in 2005, becoming a commentator on rugby for the BBC, best known for his wit and spectacular tartan suits. In 2017, he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, but typically then threw himself into fundraising for a cure for the disease. So far his Foundation (My Name’5 Doddie) has raised over £1m for MND research. Doddie received an OBE in January’s Honours List. The Doddie Weir Cup, which Scotland and Wales play for each year, is named after him.
Both funds will also be supported by a sponsored walk by the Junior Section, a hillwalking challenge by our Senior players and a funding page on the website Just Giving. This is your opportunity to support both your local club and Doddie’s campaign to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease, from which Doddie is suffering. Fernando Ricksen is also in the final stages of the disease and it has taken the life of Jimmy Johnstone.
We hope you will enjoy supporting these good causes.

About the fundraiser
Irvine Rugby Club
Formed in late 1962 as Irvine Royal Academicals, but from December '62-March '63 the committee chose new team colours, maroon jersey and blue socks. From '69, the club was known as Irvine Rugby Football Club. We now have Junior & Senior sections and are always happy to recruit.
