There's nothing better than getting home after a long day at work so you can relax, have some food and get some rest.... but imagine if you didn't have a home to go to?
The number of homeless people in Birmingham was recently estimated at 12,000 (source), that's 1 in 88! It has the worst rates of homelessness outside of the South East...
Working in the property industry, I found I became a bit blasé about the stark realities and issues facing those without permanent accommodation. Selling apartments and houses all day, you tend to forget how important those four walls are to people. It's not just another commodity to be traded but someone's home, where they can feel safe, feel comfortable, maybe raise a family...BUT imagine not having any of that security...
Reconnected was set up in 2013 and aims to tackle homelessness & neighbourhood disadvantage in the West Midlands by creating partnerships with local businesses to deliver essential services to the community and is dedicated to the development of sustainable and vibrant communities.
To raise money for this incredible charity, I, along with 7 other people, will be trekking to the summit of Mt Kenya, the 2nd highest mountain in Africa, with a peak of 5199m (17,057 ft). The trek begins in the lowland Savannah, rising through jungle, alpine meadow and finally glacial mountain terrain. The weather can be anything from hot and sunny to pouring rain to snowing. You can face anything from pleasant temperatures like a summer day to -5 degrees celcius making it that little bit more challenging...
Any donations will be gratefully received and will go to an incredible cause...
