    Story

Being diagnosed as terminally ill is quite difficult to take in, you don't really believe it (I still don't). But I'm assured my cancer is killing me quite quickly. I concentrate on the good periods of my health where as doctors seem more interested in the bad days. I summize this is to back up their morbid prognosis. I'm faced with the reality that I have to leave my wife and two young children 3 and 7 alone in life, this is the thought that is so depressing, makes me have to at least consider what the doctors are saying. However with my rare kind of cancer, consideration becomes fruitless. If i had lung/breast/ kidney/liver/brain or even leukemia I would have options. There are lots of clinical trials going on for all the mainstream cancers, even immunotherapy which is an amazing field.
Unfortunately I have a rare cancer. What this means for me is, zero funding. My oncologist has stated that the pharmaceutical companies cannot make profit from developing targeted drugs for my type of cancer so they don't. As there are approximately only a few hundred other people in the UK with this type of cancer the NHS will not fund research, neither will any of the large cancer research charities. Bleak in a word. Capitalism in another.Live by the sword and die by it! I digress, I agree with capitalism in its entirety. It has helped fashion us into the amazing, compassionate, western society we are.
However it's not perfect, which is why I come to you and ask for donations that I may be able to purchase the drugs that could save my life. My oncologist has suggested that immunotherapy would reduce if not clear my tumors, it has achieved this in so many other terminal cancer patients, across a broad spectrum of cancers. We need £20,000 to fund an empirical trial on myself. Should the results be positive I will survive. Many people worldwide with my type of cancer will have empirical evidence to assist in access to life saving drugs. The drugs will become cheaper.
