Luke Rawlings is again fighting Osteo-Sarcoma (Bone Cancer) for a tumour on his right hip. In 2010 a, tumour was discovered on Luke's left shoulder, surgeons were able to remove the tumour and follow up with a 6 month course of chemotherapy. In 2016 following a routine scan tumours were discovered in Luke's lungs and these were removed at this time it was decided Chemotherapy was not needed. During 2017, Luke started to experience pain in his right leg which caused him to limp. At first no explanation could be found, X-rays and scans did not show anything until Luke had a routine check-up with the surgeon that had removed his original tumour. More MRI scans and X-rays were ordered this time concentrating on his hip (previously doctors were looking at Luke's knee). Following a biopsy it has been discovered that it will be too complicated to remove the tumour and the best treatment is a 6 month course of Chemotherapy which starts on 30th October 2017.

This has come at an awful time as Luke's mother Lisa is herself in hospital following a complications to routine surgery. Lisa herself has been on a high dependency surgical unit for much of her hospital stay (7 weeks as at 20/10/2017). Lisa has also learnt that along with her work colleagues she is to be made redundant and as relatively new to the company, will not be entitled to redundancy pay. Luke is being cared for at present by his Nan and Grandad, (both retired) at his home. We envisage that they will continue caring for both Luke and also Lisa once she is well enough to leave hospital.

Luke's chemotherapy sessions will take place at University College Hospital in London (UCLH). Luke will have to be present in London for 3 weeks with a 2 week break, this will continue for 6 months. During his Chemotherapy weeks, Luke will stay at a newly created patient/family accommodation alongside the hospital, but will be able to return home at weekends. Parking in this area is expensive and not freely available. During 2010 Lisa drove Luke initially and then hospital transport was used. Hospital transport has to be cost effective, so this resulted in Luke having to wait around for transport home and often was the last patient to be dropped home, sometimes very late. Luke just wants his mum with him, initially his Nan will stay with Luke but as soon as Lisa is well enough Luke will want his mum by his side. We feel it will be best for Luke and Lisa if we can ensure they travel to and from hospital swiftly and without waiting around to be consolidated into a transport plan.

All money raised will be put towards paying for reliable taxis to take Luke to and from hospital. We are grateful for any support that can be given.
