Story
As a massive dog lover myself and working very closely with the Police in my job at Police Mutual, helping to fund the Retired West Midlands Police Dogs benevolent fund Is something I am really passionate about .
Retired West Midlands Police Dogs don’t just suffer from the ‘normal’ ailments associated with aging, but also suffer from the serious wear and tear that comes from years of vigorous training and working – all to keep our communities safe. Very often this has led to conditions such as arthritis, hip and knee injuries, torn ligaments, back and spinal problems.
Once a dog has retired from active Police Dog duty, their care and ongoing treatment becomes the sole responsibility of their handler or adopter. Families who take on Retired Police Dogs receive no financial assistance. It is not, at present, possible to insure these courageous dogs and therefore the cost of such care and treatment can soon mount up.
