Story
In August 2018 I will be travelling to Peru for four weeks with a group of students from my school (Warden Park) and Camps International.
On this trip, we will be volunteering in three very different communities. One on the edge of Colca Canyon – where we will have amazing views from 3,600m up and have the opportunity to try the local delicacy Alpaca en jugo (Alpaca cooked in fruit juice). Next we will be travelling to Moray in the Andes where we will be sleeping in tents and trek 5 days through the mountains to visit Machu Picchu. Then lastly, we will be staying on the shore of lake Titicaca where we will get to meet some of the Aymara people and learn about their ancient culture.
While staying with these remote communities we will be working to improve the standard of living for them. We will be helping rebuild and maintain community facilities like green houses and school buildings. In these remote regions, the people who live there are often very poor and it’s difficult to get help to them, often leading to poor sanitation and malnutrition. This is why it’s so important that we can help create a place where they can prepare food hygienically and grow their own food.
But to make this trip happen each of us has to raise £4,200. Almost 75% of this money goes towards funding the volunteering work we will be doing while we are there, while the rest of the money will be spent on travel and accommodation.
To help raise this money I will be participating on a sponsored 20 mile walk on the 24th of July. Any sponsorships would be greatly appreciated.
You can also support me by coming to one of my popup Balcombe breakfasts in Bramble Hall which I organise every month. We serve big fry ups and delicious American style pancakes. The next dates for these are Sunday 17th September and Sunday 15th October.
Thank you,
James
