I'm taking part in the Hitchin White Collar Boxing event on November 12th to raise money for Heathlands Animal Sanctuary. They are a great rescue centre based in Royston.
Heathlands literally rescue dogs that would otherwise be put to sleep. They nurse and rehabilitate them in loving foster homes until that can find their forever homes.
It's a great charity doing great things. I think people can sometimes be quick to go to a breeder when looking for a family pet. It should not be overlooked that there are always dogs and cats and puppies! that through no fault of their own have no forever home. Raising some money for the sanctuary will help to pay for food and veterinary care for the foster dogs Until they do.
Unlike other many other rescue centres Heathlands is run solely by volunteers nobody is paid a wage and any money raised goes straight to helping the animals.
Living with a foster family gives the animal somewhere nice to stay and the foster family a chance to assess the animal to know what sort of family/home would best suit them.
I've been in boxing training for about 4 months now. Its pretty intense and I've been wearing a few black eyes during the process. If anyone is able to spare a couple of pounds to aid the animal sanctuary myself and all the dogs and cats will be very greatful. It's worth me getting a few punches in the face for 😀
i have seen first hand what a great charity Heathlands is. My wife Sally had been involved with them for nearly 20 years! We had our share of foster dogs! Although we are sad to see them go off to their new home. (You always fall a little bit in love) It always feels great to know we helped in some way.
