Story
I'm doing a 100ft abseil at the fort Dunlop on 11th March to raise money for the gastroenterology department anything birminghams childrens hospital.
My daughter was diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease in August 2015 at just 14 years old having been bad for around 8 months on and off prior to diagnosis. Ibd is a chronic illness that changed my daughters life, constant stomach pain some days worse than others, continues diarrhoea, sickness, joint pain, fatigue and so much more. The medications for this illness are as scary as the illness itself, the side effects can be worse than the illness itself. Every ibd patient is different resulting in trying different medications to find the right one for you. Many ibd sufferer's have to at some point in there life have surgery but this could mean having to wear an external pouch which as you can imagine would be very daunting for anyone, not forgetting that children have to deal with this as well as adults and the emotions a person has to go through adjusting to these changes.
The money will go to the gastroenterology team as they have given us so much support, our gastroenterology nurse being at the end of the phone whenever we need her for advise or to advise of worsening illness, our doctor for squeezing us in to consultations when he already had a manic list of patients. The money is for them to use how they feel fit that being for equipment or to be able to support other families dealing with this illness.
So please take a minute to think about your family and how you would deal with an illness like this in your family and how much you would appreciate the support given by your health care provider.
Please donate and help other children dealing with ibd. Xxx
