    Story

This is Trixie, she's a Border Terrier (approximately 9 years old) that we rescued 5 weeks ago.

Myself and my daughter started walking the dogs at a local animal rescue charity in our spare time. It was only a few days before we fell in love with this little character and those teddy bear eyes. We were informed that Trixie had come to the rescue as her previous owner had been very elderly and unfortunately did not have capacity to look after her properly. Due to this Trixie's health had deteriorated resulting in her having a uterus infection and a severe ear infection in both ears. She was also matted quite badly and quite under weight.

We expressed an interest in adopting Trixie but had concerns over her health. She had already has the operation to sort the infection in her uterus but was still being medicated for her ear infection. We were told the infection would clear up but unfortunately the damage to her ears was so severe that her hearing would always be damaged and she may even eventually go completely deaf. We were informed that she would not be available for adoption until this had cleared up and she had been signed off as in good health by the vet.

We continued to return to the rescue to walk Trixie and after a couple of weeks we were informed she had been signed off by the vet and was good to go, we had the paperwork stating this. The day we took her home we had booked her into the dog groomers for a nice bath and to have a hair cut so she was all fresh. The dog groomers expressed serious concerns over Trixie's ears and suggested we should take her to the vets that day, so we did.

The vet stated that Trixie's ears were still very badly infected and that she would need antibiotics and steroids. After 4 weeks on medication and having tests the vet stated that Trixie would need an operation to completely close the ear canal to avoid her being in any more pain or discomfort. This would mean she be completely deaf. We have tried to contact the rescue as to why she was signed off and why we have paperwork stating she is healthy and there we no ongoing issues but have not had any success.

Unfortunately after the vet bills so far we cannot afford the full amount which will cost around Ā£500 but we can't stand the thought of her being in such discomfort Or pain. We would be so truly grateful for ANY amount of donations towards the operation. She has only been a part of the family for a short time but she has won our hearts and we have completely fell in love with this little character.
