Jasmine Winter has been selected to represent Cornwall girlguides on this once in a lifetime volunteering trip to Romania.

In July 2018, 16 young adults members, aged 14-18 will be travelling with 4 adult leaders to Romania to carry out a community based volunteer project.

All participants will be representing Girlgiuding South West England and have been through a selection process, where they have demonstrated their passion, dedication, understanding , practical skills and abilities to undertake the volunteer work asked of them.

During the two week project all members will be working in a state run school for children with special educational needs aged 8-12, in the city of Brasov. Providing support to existing teaching staff and taking on teaching responsibilities, with the focus being "learning through creativity". In addition to teaching, the volunteers will be undertaking basic renovation work to the building such as repainting classrooms and drawing murals to brighten up communal areas.

To prepare for this once in a life time experience all the members will meet for two pre trip weekends where they will meet each other, get to know each other more, plan how they will achieve their goal of "learning through creativity".

Each participant is required to self fund the trip which costs £2000 per person. This will be achieved through fundraising. The girls undertaking this trip need to be inventive and proactive to achieve this sum of money, bearing in mind some of them are only 14 years old and all of them are still in full time education. The leaders also must achieve the same fundraising target, volunteering their time not only during the trip but before they leave, carrying out all the planning for the pre trip weekends and the actual trip itself.

Support with raising this money will enable the girls to further invigorate the lives of the children they will be helping in Romania, as they can put greater time and effort into planning activities and finding ways to be creative that will benefit the school children, rather than trying to raise the funds to go.
