(www.somsimma.com)` in London, UK is committed to access education for disabled deaf/blind children in remote areas of Somalia who is stigmatized, marginalized and vulnerable.

Thousands of disabled children in Somalia are prevented from attending school. Within Somali society, being deaf or blind is considered a curse and perceived as a bad omen by their families. Some parents refuse to enroll their deaf children in school due to cultural stigma and taboos. Children with hearing impairments are often subjected to emotional and physical abuse by other children and adults. To eradicate these barriers we need to support them through crowdfunding.

Funding will ensure deaf/blind children (aged 7 - 15) attend two schools in remote areas and fully participate in their education. Many of these children are orphans from the recent civil war and survived the recent devastating famine. They all come from poor nomadic families who cannot afford the basic needs of their children.

Your donation will employ and train teachers to receive sign language skills, assess the needs of each disabled child plus the purchase of specialist teaching and learning materials including hearing aids and assistive teaching resources.

Furthermore, it will contribute to the establishment of vocational skills (e.g. tailoring) and training deaf children to become employable in the near future.

Children recently diagnosed as hearing impaired are still without hearing aids to boost their learning because they are poor and our charity will be able to purchase hearing aids if we get funding.
