Weʼre raising £2,520 to introduce children to “The Lost Words” of NATURE to learn to love them because if they don’t love nature we won’t be able to save it.

Nature and childhood are probably the most important things we care about, more than anything else yet the gap between the two is getting greater.
Children today seem better at identifying pokemon species than species of our british wildlife.
Children today often spend less time outdoors than prisoners!
To try to address this Robert MacFarlane wrote a magical book called
The Lost Words“. a spell book.
Robert MacFarlane’s idea was to take twenty names of common creatures and plants in the british landscape and reintroduce them into the minds and mouths of children to then go out and begin to experience NATURE for themselves.
According to research in 2017 the Wild Life Trust found that two thirds of adults also felt they had lost touch with nature.
Therefore it is my wish that all schools in the Caerphilly area have this book in their library to reintriduce our children back to nature so that words like conker, wren, badger, raven and skylark to name just a few are not lost.
Why does it matter? well it matters because nature is being lost at an alarming rate. Species are being lost and
if our children don’t know them, they can‘t love them and if they can‘t love them we can’t save them
... and no one will care if they are lost. If children, our guardians of the future, don‘t care about nature now we will never be able to save nature for the future.
