Story
Rob started to notice that something wasn't right when he couldn't lift his young son, Sam above his head any more. He'd been losing weight for a while and had been having regular checks at the hospital. In July 2020 just before his 40th birthday, Rob and his family received the news no one wants to hear - motor neurone disease (MND).
Many of you will know Rob: he talks too fast, he has an unhealthy obsession of his tomato plants, he's passionate about everything but especially Star Wars and he's one of the kindest, most genuine people around. If you are lucky enough to know him you are very fortunate. He's a loving father to Sam and husband to Helen. Helen is doing her very best to look after Rob but she has her own health challenges and has been disabled herself for ten years.
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting. Unfortunately, there is no cure for motor neuron disease, making it a terminal illness.
This means as the disease progresses he will need more support and care, which costs money. We are looking to raise at least £100, 000 to access the services and adaptations he and his family will need. This will include adaptations to the house, a new van with a motorised lift, carers and very specific mobility equipment.
As we have so many people who are concerned about Rob and his family, we will also use this space to let you know how Rob is doing. This will include health updates and how we are using the funds to maintain Rob's quality of life.
You can help us reach our target in a number of ways:
1. Organise your own fundraising event.
2. Sponsor or support any efforts that other awesome people are doing to support this campaign.
3. Or you can just donate straight to this fundraising page.
We will be taking part in a number of challenges to raise the money. More information will be posted as new fundraising events are organised.
Please give generously.
Thank you for reading this page and thinking about us. Your kind support and well wishes mean the world to us and are helping us more than you will ever know.
