Story
Following family and friends plights having been diagnosed with cancer, we wanted to highlight and make the public aware of various cancers and to raise funds for 4 Cancer organisations / charities.
In order to do so, we have planned a marathon Charity Cycle ride, from Holyhead ( Holy Island ) to the Vatican City ( Holy City); cycling from Wales, initially via ferry to Ireland; ferry to France, then potentially, according to weather dictates through France, Belgium, The Alps, Switzerland, and into Rome, Italy where it has been agreed that we can enter the Stadio Olimpico, during the 6 Nations Rugby International Italy v Wales, to be welcomed and greeted by the fans. We are then cycling to the Vatican City, where the event is to be announced in St Peter's Square, and a blessing proferred by the Pope.
With adverse weather conditions and temperatures forecast for minus 15, alternative routes, though longer, may have to be followed.
There are 2 cyclists involved and 1 back up driver, for equipment and accommodation purposes. One of the cyclists is 66 year old , with a replacement knee and arthritis in both hips, and the second is 68 years old, who retired from work on ill health.
Commencing 6/1/17, the distance of the event is 1,600 kilometres to 2,000 kilometres, dependent on route achieved, with a requirement to reach the Stadio Olimpico by 5/2/17

7 years agoI will respond in due course to the array of persons and businesses that have and are supporting the Charity Cycle Marathon I am undertaking, and in early March, we will be hosting a charity concert evening where we will be presenting the 4 Charities as named with monies as raised. I have packed my clothes, my cold weather equipment and cycling clothes and now await the start at 6.30am Friday morning. I am missing my wife, Trudy's birthday, our 44th anniversary and my grandson Luke's 18th. I am so fortunate they, Donna and Andrew support me.

7 years agoWednesday and Thursday I'll be cycling and raising funds within Tesco's Superstore, Bangor. So many people will again tell of personal experiences with cancer, some so sad, but others inspirational resulting in long lives after being diagnosed. Medicine has come so far, but until cancer is eradicated we must continue to research to find new cures. Together we can beat it, together we will beat it

7 years agoJust completed 2 x 12 hours cycling on an indoor keep fit bike in Morrisons, Holyhead, and people are so lovely and giving. They really appreciate and recognise issues surrounding cancer; many relating both sad and happy outcomes. Looking forward now to Xmas and turkey, but also looking forward/ cannot wait to commence. Still alas waiting for decisions following Clive's accident. I so still want him to come, even just to take photos. This is a team project, Dafydd Rhys Thomas, Clive, Garry and now also Ronnie Williams who will be our back up
