Story
Thanks for taking the time to read my story. On 10th Sept 2015 I was diagnosed with stage 2B cervical cancer. I was 32 wks pregnant. Alfie James arrived 6 wks early by C-Section.
Treatment was commenced - 6 wks of chemotherapy, & a further 5 wks of chemo combined with daily radiotherapy. The cancer responded well & treatment was completed in Feb 2016. In June I was told the cancer had gone. My life which had been placed on hold could start again.
However, I started getting breathless & had a persistent cough. Scans revealed in Sept 2016 that the cancer was back, spreading to my left lung, liver & some lymph nodes. More chemotherapy was required. I have had various complications & my treatment plan has not been straight forward, my left lung collapsed, filled with fluid & drained several times. I have spent a considerable time hospitalised including over Christmas 2016. Fluid has also been drained from around my heart & I have been on every type of antibiotics possible to beat re-occurring infections. At one point the doctors didn’t think I would see 2017.
I have missed Alfie’s many firsts, his first steps, buying his first pair of shoes, haircut & meeting Santa. My treatment at times has prevented me from seeing him daily, however a strong unit of supportive family & friends has ensured in my absence Alfie is getting all the love & attention he needs.
Chemo won’t keep the cancer away forever, as it will stop working. My consultant has attempted to get me onto an immunotherapy drug trial, this being the new big thing in beating cancer, without success. Treatment is available privately for approx £30K. I also suffer with Crohns, making me ineligible for some trials.
We’re arranging fundraising activities to raise money & I appeal to anyone who can spare even a small amount to help, to do so. I am desperate, I just want to be around to watch my little boy grow up & to let cancer know that it’s not going to win every time!
