    Story

My friend Nelson Vinod Moses is an award-winning journalist who writes on mental health. His work has been featured in publications like Fortune, Forbes, Quartz, HuffingtonPost, The Times of India and so on. He's attended a one year course to learn basic skills in counselling, where he learned about mental health, and also researched on the issues that plague India.

Having lost his best friend Ryan Bennett to suicide (you can read the story here ) he became interested in suicide, which is a serious issue in India, with the WHO stating that India has the most number of suicides in the world with 258,000 suicides. To put this in perspective, the UK reported it had 6,188 deaths by suicide in 2015.

Nelson has founded Suicide Prevention India Foundation, as a registered nonprofit (Corporate Identification Number U85300KA2017NPL106438/more details here ), which aims to bring about more awareness on the suicide crisis in India, and train laypersons and folks like healthcare workers, teachers, police personnel, and HR professionals on suicide prevention through the Gatekeeper program. This will be done both offline and online (modelled on the QPR Institute program). The online program will be offered free of cost and the offline program will cost Rs 500 (£5-6).

Suicide Prevention India Foundation has also started India's first suicide survivor story project to highlight stories of survivors and those who have contemplated suicide. You can access the still work in progress website here .

Currently fully self-funded by Nelson, Suicide Prevention India Foundation has a target to train 7,500 to 10,000 individuals by the end of 2018, and for this they need funding for conducting training workshops, training material, building technology, social media, and administrative costs (kept at a minimum).

Please help Nelson in his mission to create an army of Gatekeepers who can be the first line of defence in fighting the scourge of suicide and reduce the number of deaths.
