I am Deputy Ward Sister on Cornwall's Gastro and Liver Unit. Sadly, due to our speciality, we often support patients and their loved ones in their final days. I would like to buy our ward a recliner chair that can be used by relatives who want to stay over night. Hospital chairs are never very comfortable and camp beds take up precious amounts of space. A recliner could be used to provide comfort during some of the hardest times that people will face.

A recliner could also help some of our patients who, for various reasons, will not sleep in a bed. Not elevating their legs regularly can result in falls, reduced ability to walk, all of which keeps them in hospital longer and stops them enjoying their life. Something as simple as a fall can rob a patient of the confidence to walk which limits their enjoyment and quality of life.

Our ward is passionate about supporting patients and their families. If we can make someone's day or night a little easier, a little more comfortable, and help people to get back to the things that they love, we will be happy.

I will be taking on an ultra marathon in July 2019, 62 miles, non-stop to raise this money. The target may change as we pick which chair we want to buy and, if I raise more than the cost of the chair I will spend the remaining money on buying more items to improve the emotional quality of patients' stay on our ward.
