Story
My Story
I am a forty seven year old beauty therapist with three children. Two years ago I was diagnosed with stage three oestrogen+ breast cancer with positive lymph node involvement; the prognosis was hopeful but I was warned it would be a hard battle and I would need to stay positive. The treatment was: mastectomy, 6 chemotherapy treatments, 15 radiotherapy sessions and hormone treatment for the next 10 years. A year of my life was spent fighting cancer for myself, my family and my friends. I won the fight but there are side effects which will stay with me forever.
I let my children shave my head and that was ok but losing my eyebrows and eyelashes was soul destroying.
Even though the fact I lost my eyebrows and eyelashes meant I was actively engaging in the battle with cancer I felt naked and bare; as though I had an impeded ability to express myself. Overall I just felt totally out of control. As a result of this, my aspiration is to offer paramedical tattooing to others facing the same harrowing journey as me. There will be no charge but a donation can be made; I will work with Velindra, South Wales’ largest cancer hospital, with breast care nurses and with other charities to offer this service.
Once set up and running, I would like to follow up the initial qualification with further paramedical training to be able to offer 3d nipple tattooing and skin camouflage for scarring. Any donations will go toward this and covering costs.
I feel passionate about this as I can completely empathise with those receiving treatment and totally understand what they are going through.
Every donation will help me achieve this, no matter how small. If I do not raise enough, all money raised will go to a cancer charity to continue the fight.
