    Story

After Christmas when all my clothes were too tight (again), my brother suggested I do a half marathon. To begin with, I said "No, I hate running." After a few weeks of thinking about it though, I thought........OK, maybe??! Anyway, next Sat, 1st July, I am running the black country half marathon! Early on in my training, I decided that there was no point going to all this effort just to lose a few pounds, so decided I would get sponsorship for Elizabeth House. I am sure that most of you know that Mum was a resident at Elizabeth House for the past 2 & a half years. Sadly, she died in May. If I hadn't have committed to raising money for Elizabeth House, I would have stopped running in May. I cannot over emphasise the difference that everyone affiliated to Elizabeth House has made to our lives........& this was my inspiration to carry on.
Alzheimer's is a wicked disease & at times heartbreaking, but it is still possible to have good times & make fond memories. Elizabeth House undoubtedly helped David, Caroline, Seb & I to have many happy times with Mum to treasure. Seeing residents enjoying themselves, singing along with the likes of Joy St Clair on a Wednesday afternoon is so important, not just to the welfare of the residents, but to their families aswell. It still amazes me that is possible to remember all the words to songs.....even when you cannot remember who your own family are!
There are activities every afternoon at Elizabeth House, but the guest singers on a Weds and the Christmas party incur a cost. As someone who thoroughly enjoys a party & singalong myself (I know I can't sing!), I am raising money so that the resident's fund can be topped up & the good times can continue as long as possible!
Depending on how much I can raise, some money may go towards other projects, but it will all be spent on the residents.
Elizabeth House is a registered charity.
    Thank you all. X
