    Story

*Thank you to everyone that donated on the previous page before it closed! We raised a whopping £910 in just a few days. The total of this page is minus the money from the other campaign!

Born with a muscle wasting condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 2, Jess has been fully dependent on an electric wheelchair since two years of age. As a young adult now at the age of twenty-one, her chair remains crucial for her everyday mobility and independence, more so now than ever.

Although Jess' current chair has served her well, it is now a decade old and has increasingly proven to let her down on a number of occasions this year, which has often led to costly maintenance repairs. In these instances, breakdowns have meant she has been unable to leave the house or at worse, been left stranded while out alone.

A few weeks ago her chair chose an unfortunate time to stop working, leaving her incapable of moving whilst travelling via tram. It's safe to say that her confidence has been knocked by her once faithful four-wheels. Luckily, her pup was on hand to keep her company and reduce her anxiety levels at this time.

Jess wants to be able to go to work, take her assistance dog (currently in training), Presley, for a walk without support, and be able to maintain her level of dignity without the constant fear her chair may break down without warning. Although sad to see her old one off, she fully relies on her chair as her pair of legs and so the time has undoubtedly come to upgrade. Nevertheless, a new one costs upwards of around £15,000 as the NHS have not got the funds to facilitate all of her needs. This has led us to set up a campaign in aid of raising money towards a new chair in order to help Jess regain her mobility and independence.

Thanks for all your continued support
