Between 5th March 2017 and 1st April 2017 I am going to embark on a once in a life-time opportunity; carrying out my Midwifery Elective Placement in Dumaguete, Philippines.

As some of you may or may not know, I am currently a third year Student Midwife. With the fantastic training which is being provided at University and on placements here in the UK, I will take my skills and knowledge over to the Philippines, to provide both physical and emotional care to women during pregnancy, birth and after birth alongside healthcare professionals over there. This will be done in a local hospital and in communities within Dumaguete to women and families who are not as privileged to have access to the fantastic healthcare system we have here in the UK.

Of course, this exciting trip comes with a cost. This trip is solely self-funded and completely voluntary. However, I know the skills and insight I am going to gain in the Philippines will be an invaluable life experience and towards my future career as a Midwife. I am carrying out this placement through the company ‘’Work the World’’, costing £1,690, however, this excludes flights, insurance and spending money whilst there.
